SONG REVIEW: Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen, Good Time

TITLE: Good Time
ARTISTS: Owl City, Carly Rae Jepsen
LABEL: Universal Music
RELEASED: September 10th 2012

It may seem a rather bizarre combination but the new track from Adam Young of Owl City and pop sensation Carly Rae Jepsen is a summer club classic. It coincides with Owl City’s new album The Midsummer Station and is a feel-good pop track that you can’t not like… even if Carly’s last single made you scream in pain.

Driven by synths and a thumping beat, which support the auto-tune heavy vocals, Good Time is one of the most radio-ready songs of the season and it has become a staple of many summer playlists already. Now its official release is here, it’s only going to get bigger and it could well end up being the next Moves Like Jagger or dare I say, Call Me Maybe?

A young, fresh, American vibe surrounds it and the addition of the children’s choir towards the end adds an innocence to a song, which is essentially about going out and having a “good time”. This juvenile sound is a reminder that the good time isn’t referring to drinking too much and sleeping with someone you don’t know -it’s about waking up on “the right side of the bed” without a headache and wanting to go out and do it again.

Cheesy and kid-simple, yes but there’s no denying that it’s a guilty pleasure. Listening to this isn’t going to make you cross your arms and harumph in disapprovement. Click play and prove me right.
