These guys have been hovering on my radar for a little while and I felt that now was as good a time as any to introduce you to them. Scouse foursome Vasco Da Gama are merging math-rock with post-hardcore with the occasional Latin inspired hook and they have ended up with a catchy and infectious sound.
Taking the name of a Portugese explorer who discovered Brazil, Vasco Da Gama formed in 2010. They cite The Mars Volta and Maps and Atlases as influences and have received lots of favourable reviews from The Fly and Rocksound as well as a wealth of other blogs. They are about to release a new EP entitled Geography this month, which promises to bring some quirky indie riffs, catchy rhythms and potentially some big hits. Rocksound said of them:
“This Liverpool four-piece could turn some heads in 2013”.
They have released two EPs preceding the new one. Their self-titled debut was released in October 2011 and the second Them Teeth/Hawk Moth was released last April. Geography is due to be released on April 22nd and it has certainly got me excited about a potential review on the horizon! They’re also embarking on a small UK tour at the end of this month. Listen to Hawk Moth below for an idea of what to expect.
