SONG REVIEW: Queens Of The Stone Age, My God Is The Sun

qotsagodissunTITLE: My God Is The Sun
BAND: Queens Of The Stone Age
LABEL: Matador
RELEASED: April 8th 2013

It has been six years since Queens Of The Stone Age last released a new album and today, we got the first taste of …Like Clockwork, which is due for a June release. My God Is The Sun was debuted at Lollapalooza Brazil last month and the studio version, featuring none other than Dave Grohl on drums, has finally been unleashed.

Following on from Era Vulgaris in 2007, their new record sees them collaborate with some big names including Alex Turner, Jake Shears and even Elton John. If the first reveal is anything to go by, there could be seriously unexpected tunes on their way. Imagine Elton rocking to some serious guitar attack as My God Is The Sun suggests there will be!

qotsaThe inclusion of maracas which make a few appearances is only the beginning of the attitude in this track. Josh Homme’s distinctive voice melts over the melodic, furious riffs and twirling drums leaving the listener with a haunting and undeniably catchy sound in their head. The main instrumental continues to pop up throughout the track and it’s this that you’re left with at the end, contemplating whether all of …Like Clockwork is going to be like this.

It’s a long-awaited, much longed-for album and My God Is The Sun could quite possibly be the perfect introduction to it. No doubt long time QOTSA fans will notice that they seem to have got heavier during their absence but damn, it’s good!
