Having received many great reviews from other music blogs and indeed a lot of national press, Waylayers were a band that I had to feature. Their EP Fault Lines is due for release next month and they have streamed S.O.S as its lead track to give us a little taste of what is to come. It is a perfect mix of atmosphere, indie and electronica and actually reminds me a LOT of Coldplay, which I’m surprised they haven’t been compared to before.
Waylayers are an East London trio with a European tour under their belt and a new Abbey Road mastered EP. They are also performing at a series of festivals this summer including Isle Of Wight and Wickerman, due to their festival-ready tracks. S.O.S certainly knows how to capture an audience and start a summer party.
Catchy synths and pop beat start things off and then singer Harry’s Chris Martin-esque voice kicks in and the hook continues to play in your mind. Atmospheric instrumentals are what make up the track and there is an essence of Two Door Cinema Club in the style too. Perhaps the thing I love most about it is that I could dance to it in a club just as easily as I could lay back in the sun and have it playing in my ears.
A versatile summer song that takes us back to Coldplay’s earlier career is the first glimpse of Waylayers’ new EP, which if it’s anything like S.O.S should be very exciting indeed. No doubt they could be the new festival success story.
