Last month, I reviewed the latest EP Nothing Personal from Southampton rockers The Broken Arrows. The edgy pop-rock band who have been together a few years play indie with a twist and hold high hopes of bringing something different to the scene. Here they talk to me about the new record and hints of an upcoming album…
How did the band start?
The band has previously had a couple of different line-ups before we finally felt that we were onto to something good. Generally speaking though, we all met around the time we were all at college and just found we all had a great time being in a band. As time went on and we became more well-known we decided to take everything a lot more seriously and try to make a career in the music business.
Who are your influences?
We all have very eclectic tastes in music. But generally, The Rolling Stones, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, the Black Keys, Led Zeppelin, Arctic Monkeys, The Heavy; more or less anything retro or retro sounding
What is your favourite song from the latest EP Nothing Personal?
Eyes Fixed on the Sky is probably the one we’re most proud of in terms of song writing and musicianship. For us, it’s the one that best reflects our sound and direction.
Which gigs do you have coming up?
The next one is at District in Loughborough -we’re supporting The View. We can’t wait.
What has been the band’s biggest achievement so far?
Getting signed to Coffee Jingle Records has allowed us to record a debut album that we’re really proud of and can’t wait for people to hear.
If you were an animal, what would you be and why?
Ray: Any bird. Who wouldn’t wanna fly?
Chris W: A Shark. Haven’t you seen Jaws?
Chris G: Probably like a tiger or something. No one messes with them.
Nick: A Dragon
What would you be doing if you weren’t in The Broken Arrows?
Ray: I’d still be playing guitar and making music.
Chris W: I don’t think I’d wanna do anything else.
Chris G: Hard to think about that! I’d still be writing music.
Nick: I would finish my degree
