I’ve never been a fan of Lily Allen but the video for her new single Hard Out Here really caught my attention. She has taken a break from music to spend time with her growing family and her comeback single is a critique of the way that women are treated in the entertainment industry. The song is about misogyny and the pressure of living up to an unrealistic ideal that the industry has of its women. With a video that really challenges this archaic view, champions female intelligence and talent while poking fun at Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines (which has been accused of objectifying women), Hard Out Here has arrived at just the right time. Girls, have a watch and feel empowered!
